What voltage ratings are available?

+

Our fuses cover a wide voltage range:

  • Low voltage: 32V, 48V, 80V DC (automotive, auxiliary)
  • Medium voltage: 250V, 500V, 690V AC/DC
  • High voltage: 750V, 1000V, 1500V DC (EV, ESS, utility solar)
  • Custom voltages: up to 4200V DC available on request

Always verify the DC voltage rating on the specific product datasheet, as DC ratings differ from AC ratings.

What current ratings are available?

+

Current ratings range from 2A to 3000A depending on the fuse series:

  • PCB / blade fuses: 2A-40A
  • MIDI / MEGA fuses: 30A-500A
  • ANL fuses: 20A-800A
  • High-voltage DC fuses: 32A-800A
  • Industrial / semiconductor: 2A-3000A

Custom current ratings outside standard ranges can be developed for OEM projects.

Do you offer fuse holders and accessories?

+

Contact us for compatible holder recommendations for your specific fuse model.

Technical

How do I select the right fuse for my application?

+

Fuse selection requires matching five key parameters:

  1. Voltage rating: ≥ system maximum voltage (DC rating for DC circuits)
  2. Current rating: 1.25-1.5× continuous operating current
  3. Breaking capacity: > maximum available fault current
  4. Time-current curve: coordinated with other protective devices
  5. Certification: appropriate standard (UL, IEC, etc.)

Our technical blog has detailed selection guides, or contact our engineers for free selection support.

What is the difference between AC and DC fuses?

+

AC and DC fuses are not interchangeable. AC arcs naturally extinguish at current zero-crossing (100-120 times per second), while DC arcs have no zero-crossing and are much harder to interrupt. DC fuses use specialized arc-quenching materials and longer arc chambers. Always use a fuse with an explicit DC voltage rating for DC circuits — the AC rating does not apply.

What is breaking capacity and why does it matter?

+

Breaking capacity (interrupting rating) is the maximum short-circuit current a fuse can safely interrupt without rupturing. If the fault current exceeds the breaking capacity, the fuse cannot extinguish the arc and may rupture, catch fire, or weld shut. It is more critical than the current rating. Calculate available fault current (I = V/Z) and select a fuse with breaking capacity exceeding that value (with 25% margin). Learn more in our breaking capacity guide.

What is the difference between gG, aR, gPV and gR fuse classes?

+

The first letter indicates range: g = full-range (overload + short-circuit), a = partial-range (short-circuit only). The second letter(s) indicate application:

  • gG: general-purpose full-range (cable/circuit protection)
  • aR: partial-range semiconductor protection (ultra-fast, short-circuit only)
  • gR: full-range semiconductor protection
  • gPV: full-range photovoltaic (designed for low DC fault currents in solar)

See our fuse class comparison guide for full details.

What is the operating temperature range?

+

Most EssFuse fuses operate within -40°C to +85°C ambient temperature. Some high-temperature models (PPS material) are rated up to +125°C. Note that fuse current ratings must be derated at high ambient temperatures — refer to the temperature derating curve in the product datasheet.

Certification

What certifications do EssFuse fuses have?

+

Our fuses are certified to multiple international standards:

  • UL: UL 248-1, UL 248-11, UL 248-13, UL 248-14, UL 248-19
  • IEC: IEC 60269-1, IEC 60269-4, IEC 60269-6
  • Regional: CE, TUV, CQC
  • Automotive: USCAR-2 vibration testing (selected models)

Specific certifications vary by product series — check the individual product datasheet or contact us for certification documents.

Can you provide UL recognition or listing for custom fuses?

+

Yes. We can pursue UL recognition or listing for custom/OEM fuse designs through our established UL certification process. Timeline is typically 8-16 weeks depending on the standard and testing requirements. Contact our engineering team to discuss certification requirements for your project.

Do you provide RoHS and REACH compliance?

+

Yes, all EssFuse products are RoHS compliant and meet REACH SVHC requirements. We can provide RoHS certificates, REACH declarations, and material composition reports (including conflict minerals statements) upon request.
